Behind the Design: In Bloom Print
We’re taking you behind the scenes here at Change of Scenery HQ, a look into our print process and how we work our design magic.
From initial concept to samples – it’s exciting to see our designs come to life!
With temperatures dropping and leaves changing our design team was hard at work coming up with the latest prints for our Resort season. Introducing our second collection and our first floral print.
Say hello to: In Bloom Floral.
“We have seen so much success with our bold, graphic and colorful prints that feel quite different from anything else in the swim market. I love florals but it had to be just the right one that is easy to wear and doesn’t feel vintage. I’m obsessed with how the colors jump off the black background.” – Jamie Banks, Founder and Creative Director
. To create this custom artwork, we partnered with Leslie Randall, founder of The Luxury Shrink, a creative agency specializing in illustration, textile design, & branding (fun fact, she also designed our logo and typography!) Leslie and our founder Jamie worked together at Kate Spade for many years and really understand each other! Leslie’s romantic hand and modern approach to print made her the perfect artist to create our first floral.
Our very own intern Emma Zayat interviewed Leslie to learn more about how In Bloom came to life:
EMMA: Tell us about your process to create the In Bloom Floral...
LESLIE: "I started my process playing with a paintbrush and gouache on watercolor paper. I soon realized I wanted an inkier hand so I switched to painting with India Ink and water, which creates a really cool light and dark gradation. I played with large and small brushes to differentiate large and small flowers. My favorite part is scanning everything in, playing in photoshop for the perfect color balance and then digitally drawing in any details to refine and create the perfect balance and movement.
EMMA: You know Jamie and the brand so well. What makes this print perfect for Change of Scenery.
LESLIE: This print was designed, from start to finish, with swimwear in mind. So many prints do not consider swimwear size and scale. It's very different than a dress that sits away from the body! Also the dark ground on this print is universally flattering, but the flowers correspond to the Change of Scenery solid swim palette which is bright and optimistic. The black ground makes this print so easy to wear, but the gorgeous colors steal the show ✨

This collection also includes our favorite new styles we know you are going to love because so many of you asked for them! A gorgeous sleek one shoulder called the Kara One Piece, a supportive string halter called the Allison Top, and a super chic Side Tie Bottom, which fits just like our best-selling Classic High Waist Bottom with a gorgeous tie detail. All of these new styles build on what you are already telling us you love – covering the bits you don’t want to expose and showing off what makes you feel gorgeous and confident.
We couldn’t just drop a print in swim of course! We updated our fan-favorite Tracy Dress in this gorgeous print (what’s better than a floral shirtdress?) and adding (wait for it…. 🙌) the perfect pull-on Brooke Pant! That’s right, so many of you asked for the Rachel Skirt to be pants! What a great idea! Pair the Erika Top with the Rachel Pants and you will look (and feel) like a million bucks.
